Description
Hourly Rate: $23.00 - $25.00 Plus Annual BonusShifts: M-F 7:00 am -3:30 pm, M-Th 6:30 am-5:00 pm, or Tu-F 6:30 am - 5:00 pm.
SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Production Supervisor, the primary role is to assist in various capacities, including, but not limited to, lamination, bonding, painting, and inspection
Responsibilities include some or all of the following:
Lamination and Bonding
- Understands safety and procedural issues for the process
- Reads and understands the production process instruction sheet, including identification of all relevant materials and equipment
- Reads and understands part drawings and identifies important details and dimensions
- Inspects parts for dimensional qualities
- Inspects parts for lamination or secondary process readiness
- Ensures the availability of materials and supplies for upcoming production
- Schedules daily lamination tasks to ensure optimum throughput to meet customer demand
- Cleans and maintains the mix and weighing equipment
- Performs secondary operations (i.e., insert installation) when necessary
- Bonding
o Reads and understands process sheet and/or packing slip
o Trims and dry fits blocks before the bond process
o Records all lot information onto process sheets
o Weighs out adhesives and prepares bagging/bonding materials
o Bonds and vacuum bags blocks or finished parts to meet drawing or process sheet specifications
o Trim/package or crate items for shipment
- Fiberglassing
- Reads and understands part drawings for glass layout and thickness details
- Prepares work area for glassing process
- Cuts/prepares fiberglass for lay-up process
- Properly weighs and mixes resins for lay-up
- Performs the layout process, including vacuum bagging when required
- Trims and finishes parts, including sanding, and readies parts for final coatings
- Inspects and prepares final parts for shipment
- Prepares equipment preventive maintenance schedule
- Participates in inventory assessment of raw materials and data collection
- Evaluates supplies status and notifies or orders supplies
Painting
- Understands safety and procedural issues for the process
- Reads and understands the production process instruction sheet and identifies all relevant materials and equipment
- Prepares coatings and processing equipment per manufacturer specifications
- Prepares syntactic/composite part surfaces for coatings to ensure the final product meets customer requirements, including but not limited to:
- Surface repair (patching and/or glassing)
- Sanding and gloss coat
- Priming
- Coats parts per customer requirements
- Cures and finishes parts per customer requirements
- Maintains paint booth and finishing area to ensure safety and production standards are met
- Inspects and prepares final parts for shipments
- Prepares equipment preventive maintenance schedule
- Participates in inventory assessment of raw materials and data collection
- Evaluates supplies status and notifies or orders supplies
- Participates in the evaluation and development of new coatings and/or coating techniques
Macrosphere processing
- Understands safety and procedural issues for the macrosphere process
- Maintains a clean work area and general housekeeping of all equipment and scales
- Identifies all relevant equipment
- Reads and understands batch cards and identifies materials used in the process
- Inspects/evaluates incoming starting beads for processing
- Accurately loads tumbler(s) with starting materials and initiates process (heating/tumbling)
- Properly applies coats by accurately weighing and transferring material
- Accurately fills out batch cards with required information
- Performs water displacement or pycnometer density checks during the process
- Unloads and screens finished product, attains batch weights, and prepares QC samples
- Replenishes raw materials and supplies
- Prepares equipment preventive maintenance schedule
- Cleans and maintains the tumbler
- Processes experimental batches with new materials or possible process improvements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull greater than 50 pounds. With the occasional need to lift up to 100 pounds
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to walk through a large manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to use hand tools
- Constant use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Repetitive hand and arm movements.
- Occasional bending and twisting.
- Frequently moving about to accomplish tasks.
- Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to wear PPE as necessary (respirator, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, etc.).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The majority of work is performed in a manufacturing environment with noise levels within safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.
